Red
Bird Mission Trip 2008
July 6 - 12, 2008
Beverly, Kentucky
During the week of July 6th - 12th,
5 adults and 3 youth set out on an adventure to Red Bird Mission in Beverly,
Kentucky. After arriving and meeting the other teams, our assigned mission
was to build a 40 foot handicap ramp for a local resident in Beverly. With
no instructions or blue prints, we had to depend on the exceptional knowledge of
our own Mike Hall and Ken Byrd to build this ramp. After digging the holes
for the footers, we were able to 'chalk' a straight line to determine our
descent from the front porch to the driveway. Didn't look possible after
the initial line was drawn, but after a few sections were laid, the descent was
perfect. Project was completed as planned with concrete laid at the bottom
of the ramp to complete the route to the driveway. Also during the week we
met together for supper each night (always interesting) and a time of worship
after. We were also able to tour a lot of the different buildings that are
used at the Red Bird Mission. Talent night was fun as we were able to see
different groups come up with unique talents to share with the group. Our
time of sharing in worship the last night was powerful as we shared our
experiences with the families we met during our mission work. For the
eight of us, the unending joy of helping others will forever be etched in our
lives. Pictures below are just a 'glimpse' of our time together.
